Cashmere, Merino, Angora
This time of year we get a lot of questions about the many types of "wool" that we sell, specifically: cashmere, merino and angora. First and foremost they are from three different animals. Cashmere is from the cashmere goat and is notable because of it's softness and warmth. Merino wool, originally from the Spanish merino sheep, is notable for it's warm fleece and it's ability to wick away moisture from the wearer. Angora is actually from the angora rabbit (not to be confused with Mohair which is from the angora goat) and is notable for it's fluffiness and warmth and is often blended with wool to give it elasticity. So if you are considering one of these great wools as a gift, lets say in a sweater it would be good to consider the nature of the recipient. If they are active and outdoorsy, try merino; if they are sensible and chic, try cashmere and finally if they are comfy, cozy type who love to be pampered, go with the angora.
